Joining Up Development Programme

The Joining Up Development Programme was an innovative series of seminars delivered during 2005 and 2006, on 9 key development issues of concern to the ICBAN region. These issues were examined from a cross border perspective, with input from experts in the field and international speakers. Officers or Councillors involved in Local Government, Trade Unions, Farming, Social Inclusion, Anti Poverty, Equality, Rural Development, Community Voluntary Sector, Business and Civil Service were invited to participate and input into these crucial issues. In a seminar format participants were able to create imaginative solutions by:- - examining what policy issues (e.g. Spatial Planning, Social Inclusion) really mean in a day to day practical context. - networking with other sectors in the cross border area on practical policy issues, - establishing long term networks focused on key strategic issues for the region. Attendance at seminars was free. The Joining Up Development seminars were a unique opportunity to network with people from your sector from around the cross-border region and from other sectors. The expert training delivered was of value to those with an interest in local or regional development and sustainable communities. It was an opportunity to build understanding of certain issues and to make useful contacts for work and/or area. The concluding event on the programme - 10th May 2006 - formally launched a number of Joined-up Development oriented networks to carry forward cross border working on a range of development issues, known as the BEAN Network
