Cavan Councillors invited to Stormont

Armagh Mayor Thomas O'Hanlon MLA formally welcomed a group of Cavan Councillors yesterday to Armagh Palace.  The group included ICBAN Management Board Members; Cllrs Winston Bennett and Fergal Curtin.  Arranged by their counterparts in Armagh City and District Council, the Cavan County Councillors continued their journey to Stormont, where they enjoyed the hospitality of Danny Kennedy MLA before travelling into Belfast for a tour of the City Hall conducted by SDLP Councillor Peter O'Reilly.

The invitation came as a result of cross-border co-operation between Armagh and Cavan Councils and is a practical example of the close working relationship between ICBAN Chairperson, Cllr Winston Bennett and it's Vice Chairperson, Cllr Robert Turner.

Cllr Bennett, Chair of Cavan County Council said;
“This was a very beneficial experience for all concerned, not only did it afford us the opportunity to discuss common cross-border issues such as agriculture and health; but with activities such as the Ulster Canal under the spotlight we can visual the achievements to be made through co-operation.”

Cllr Robert Turner, added;

“It was an absolute pleasure to be associated with the organisation of this trip; this is something that would not have been contemplated a few years ago and I hope that the positive experience enjoyed by Cavan may act as a catalyst for our other southern councils visits in the future.”

Relationships between all 10 of ICBAN Member Councils have been further strengthened over the past two years as they work together to bring projects to fruition, that are part financed by the European Union's European Regional Development Fund through the INTERREG IVA Cross-Border Programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.
