Northern Periphery Programme 5th Call now open
The Fifth Call for Applications is currently open! It will run from the 3rd of February to the 24th of March 2010. The call is an open call addressing both priorities of the programme: Promoting innovation and competitiveness in remote and peripheral areas; Sustainable development of natural and community resources. Applicants are particularly encouraged to address the negative impacts of the global economic crisis and focus on innovative solutions. In addition, two gaps have been highlighted and applicants are sought in these areas: Urban Rural Partnerships for new Service Solutions and Exchange of Best Practice be-tween R&D institutions and SMEs. Six themes have also been identified that could be addressed more strongly. More information and full list of the themes can be found here:

Northern Periphery Programme New Call for Preparatory Projects
The NPP has recently issued an ongoing call for preparatory projects. Preparatory projects only require two partners from two Member States. The maximum grant to a Prepara-tory project is 18 000 EUR, up to 60% of eligible costs (30 000 EUR total budget). Projects applicants should demonstrate their potential to address the negative impacts of the global economic crisis and its effects in the Northern Periphery area, by creatively seeking to increase the creation of jobs and busi-nesses that prevent unemployment, and develop innovative solutions for recovering from the global economic crisis. In ad-dition, a wider definition of products and services has been de-veloped. You can find more details in the Call Announcement. North West Europe Call for Strategic Clusters
The call will be open from 17 February until 10 March 2010 just for approved projects. The initiative on Cluster Development is shared between the Programme and already approved projects. So far, the Programme has identified three potential clusters of approved projects. This allocation of projects is strictly thematic and ad-dresses the following topics:
Innovative approaches to urban, inter-urban and rural public passenger transport
Innovative approaches to sustainable energy pro-motion and management
Adaptation to the expected spatial impacts of climate change
